Reason

The reason I have created this site is to discuss global issues and to provide you, and my other weblog visitors, with information about the steps, big and small, that can be taken to help prevent global warming and unfair treatment. I hope that I have not scared you away. I do not mean to come across as righteous. I have not made dramatic changes in the world. I have chosen to become aware of global warming, recycling, fuel efficiency, organic fibres, sweat shops and fair trade. I have made small steps such as: recycling, buying organic foods and products and buying fair trade clothing and accessories. I do not drive a car, but my partner does. You and I do not need to be righteous, world saving hippies, in order to make a difference. If you and I can take these little steps together we can contribute to saving and changing the world. We can prevent global warming and cruel treatment in the case of slave labour. You may only be one person in a world full of over 6 billion people but you make a difference. You have an influence on others who will be affected by your views and who will admire your actions and outlook. You can make a difference. Lets change the world together!

Changing The Lives if Our Future Generations

Right now we have a very huge global warming scare going on. Thank God the documentary, staring Al Gore, "An Inconvenient Truth" came out revealed the actual effects of global warming and how climates are drastically changing and becoming warmer. We are making our habitat unlivable for future generations.
As a mother this is a very important topic for me because I want my son to have a wonderful and enjoyable life and I don't want him to have to worry about dying at a young age due to the effects of global warming. Any and every step counts. From recycling, to buying organic, to riding a bicycle or driving a fuel efficient car. I personally recycled, walk and try to buy organic as much as I possibly can. I also buy clothing made of natural fibre that grows naturally without the use of pesticides.

These my natural, Eco friendly and organic resources:

I'm Organic "Did you know it takes about a third of a pound of synthetic agricultural chemicals to grow enough cotton for one T-shirt? What impact do all of those chemicals have on our health, farm worker’s health, our soils, and our water sources that must accept the toxic runoff? Science may be slow to offer us absolute answers, but sometimes common sense and wisdom must be used. At I’m Organic, we are proud to offer you products that were created with your values at the heart of our mission. From our 100% certified organic cotton clothing line, tote bags, and lunch bags, to the soy inks our magnets and stickers are printed with, to our 100% post consumer waste recycled greeting card line, you’ll find the only sweat that was used in creating these products came from our brow to create for you the best, cleanest products available."

Shirts of Bamboo "Soft Bamboo fiber is softer than the softest cotton, has a natural sheen to the surface and feels similar to silk or cashmere.
Unlike other anti-microbial fabrics, which require a chemical treatment, bamboo fiber clothing is naturally anti-microbial and requires no harmful chemicals. It contains an agent, ‘bamboo kunh’, that prevents bacteria from cultivating on it. Bamboo apparel is comfortable, thermal regulating and will keep you cooler, drier, warmer and odor free.
Natural Bamboo is one of the world’s most prolific and fastest-growing plants, and is able to reach maturity in about four years, compared to the typical 25 to 70 years for commercial tree species in the U.S.
Bamboo is nature’s most sustainable resource. It is grown without pesticides or chemicals, is 100% biodegradable, and is naturally regenerative. Bamboo is actually a tropical grass with an extensive root system that sends out an average of four to six new shoots per year, naturally replenishing itself and growing to heights of 60 feet or more. Some bamboo species grow up to 4 feet per day and can be harvested every 3 to 4 years."

The Benefits of Environmentally Friendly Cars

If you are interested in saving the environment and making the world a better place you are not alone. There are many ways that you can do this, and one of the best is through the use of a car that is environmentally friendly.

Although these models are few and far between at this point, over the next few years this is set to change quite a bit. After all, for a car manufacturer to keep up in today's day and age they are going to have to offer green cars that will suit both drivers and the environment.

It is safe to say that this is a challenge that they are up to. At this point there are several environmentally friendly cars on the road; they are known as hybrids. The great thing about these cars is that even though they use some gas, they also run off of electricity. So not only does this cut back on the amount of gas that you have to use, but it also decreases emissions as well.

There are many hybrid cars that are leading the industry. Two of the most popular are the Toyota Prius and the Ford Escape. Both of these models offer great gas mileage, and have really laid the ground work for more cars like them in the near future. Although many people feel that green car performance is an area that needs to be improved upon, this is not always the case. Automakers are looking for ways to offer the same amount of performance in green cars as they do in those that run on straight gasoline. While this issue is not completely taken care of at this time, things are moving in the right direction.

Cars like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord hybrids have a lot to offer. They are environmentally friendly, but at the same time they offer the same power as other cars in its class. As you can see, environmentally friendly cars are on their way up. As the auto industry begins to progress, more and more green cars will be taking the road.

eBay is a great place to look for Hybrid/ fuel efficient automobiles.

Eye Opener

What encouraged me to write this blog is the movie "An Inconvenient Truth". Before I watched this movie I was into buying organic and recycling but I wasn't as dedicated as I am to it now. It was truly an eye opener. Al Gore is amazing.

Some Facts that Stuck With Me:

- We have the hottest reported weather EVER recorded in the past 14 years.

- Antarctica is melting and the sea level will raise in all parts of the world at least 20 feet.

- We have had the highest amount of recorded hurricanes within the past few years.

- Many people have lost possessions, homes, lives and loved ones due to the dramatic weather changes.

- People are obsessed with money and saving versus spending. Without a WORLD money has no relevance!

Sponsor Child's Fate

I decided to sign up with World Vision and sponsor a child. I am sending my money to a beautiful 4 year-old little boy and his mother. The money will enable them to receive an education and be able to create a lifestyle that benefits not only them, but others in their community. I am extremely proud to be supporting this young child and his mother. The only problem is that they live in Cape Town close to the ocean in South Africa. I realized after watching "An Inconvenient Truth" that if Antarctica does melt and the sea level does rise my foster child will have more problems than he does presently. He could possibly even die. Something needs to be done to save this precious child.

Priceless Change

As we all know organic foods and products are more expensive than non organics; however, in reference to "An Inconvenient Truth" without the world there would be no money, we would be dead. So in other words, how much is your life worth? My main reason for buying organics and contributing to changing the world is for my son. What is the point of raising a child if the world ends and your child can't even live a full life? I might as well make my sons life livable. The price of my sons life is priceless and therefore money doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Health and happiness does.

A Role Model

My sister really got me into organics. She opened a store in a town close to the one I live in. She began selling clothing. As time went on she set her standards higher and higher. She began buying clothing she new was made in the US to avoid slave labour. She then began buying fair trade clothing to sell in her store. She now buys fair trade and organic and has been doing so for a year. Her store went from a trendy little spot to a trendy little spot with a purpose. She sells clothing made from bamboo, hemp, organic cotton, alpaca wool and the natural fabric resources are growing. What really makes me proud is that she made more money selling clothing that wasn't made of organic fabric and she wasn't sure if it was fair trade. She has decided to make a difference and change the world aside from money. Now that's a daring step. She gets many visitors to her store and makes a good living off her little boutique. She used to sell online but has gotten very busy. I have decided that if she gets enough people requesting online shopping that I will take care of selling her merchandise online. Check her store out at http://radwaystudio.com if you like what you see and would like to purchase something please e-mail me (pamela.mitchell@hotmail.com)
and I will set something up.
