Eye Opener

What encouraged me to write this blog is the movie "An Inconvenient Truth". Before I watched this movie I was into buying organic and recycling but I wasn't as dedicated as I am to it now. It was truly an eye opener. Al Gore is amazing.

Some Facts that Stuck With Me:

- We have the hottest reported weather EVER recorded in the past 14 years.

- Antarctica is melting and the sea level will raise in all parts of the world at least 20 feet.

- We have had the highest amount of recorded hurricanes within the past few years.

- Many people have lost possessions, homes, lives and loved ones due to the dramatic weather changes.

- People are obsessed with money and saving versus spending. Without a WORLD money has no relevance!

Sponsor Child's Fate

I decided to sign up with World Vision and sponsor a child. I am sending my money to a beautiful 4 year-old little boy and his mother. The money will enable them to receive an education and be able to create a lifestyle that benefits not only them, but others in their community. I am extremely proud to be supporting this young child and his mother. The only problem is that they live in Cape Town close to the ocean in South Africa. I realized after watching "An Inconvenient Truth" that if Antarctica does melt and the sea level does rise my foster child will have more problems than he does presently. He could possibly even die. Something needs to be done to save this precious child.

Priceless Change

As we all know organic foods and products are more expensive than non organics; however, in reference to "An Inconvenient Truth" without the world there would be no money, we would be dead. So in other words, how much is your life worth? My main reason for buying organics and contributing to changing the world is for my son. What is the point of raising a child if the world ends and your child can't even live a full life? I might as well make my sons life livable. The price of my sons life is priceless and therefore money doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Health and happiness does.

A Role Model

My sister really got me into organics. She opened a store in a town close to the one I live in. She began selling clothing. As time went on she set her standards higher and higher. She began buying clothing she new was made in the US to avoid slave labour. She then began buying fair trade clothing to sell in her store. She now buys fair trade and organic and has been doing so for a year. Her store went from a trendy little spot to a trendy little spot with a purpose. She sells clothing made from bamboo, hemp, organic cotton, alpaca wool and the natural fabric resources are growing. What really makes me proud is that she made more money selling clothing that wasn't made of organic fabric and she wasn't sure if it was fair trade. She has decided to make a difference and change the world aside from money. Now that's a daring step. She gets many visitors to her store and makes a good living off her little boutique. She used to sell online but has gotten very busy. I have decided that if she gets enough people requesting online shopping that I will take care of selling her merchandise online. Check her store out at http://radwaystudio.com if you like what you see and would like to purchase something please e-mail me (pamela.mitchell@hotmail.com)
and I will set something up.

They Make Bamboo Clothing

When I first found out that there was clothing made from Bamboo around and that it was/is selling like wild fire I was amazed. I had no idea that clothing could actually be made from Bamboo. My sister ordered a shipment to her store to test out what the fabric was like and how well the clothing made from bamboo sold. We were surprised to find out that bamboo clothing is by far the most soft and smooth material either of us had ever felt. I can't take my bamboo clothing off. It is so comfortable, I never imagined something so earthly and natural could be more comfortable than any article of clothing I have ever owned. Obviously other people think so to. My sister was completely out of her Bamboo merchandise immediately after she stocked her racks with the apparel. Apparently Bamboo flooring has become very popular as well.

The great thing about Bamboo, besides the wonderful fabric it creates, is that it does not require any pesticides because it grows extremely fast.

Noodles

I used to buy Mac and Cheese and Sidekicks to eat with meals. Mac and cheese was more for lunch and Sidekicks I made to go along with dinner. Eventually I started going with another option. Organic mac and cheese. I buy Annie's at my local grocery store. You may have seen Annie's before but if you haven't I found their website. Annie's isn't that expensive and it tastes great. I will never again purchase any other type of noodles with sauce. You can buy local fruit veggies any any other organic foods from your local grocery store but if you don't have Annie's it's non perishable and therefore easy to order without the fear of going bad. Annie's also offers a scholarship program, they promote growing your own garden, standing for peace, recycling and thinking organic.
